​​Spinel comes in a variety of colors: aqua, blue, black, brown, gray, green, orange, pink, purple, red, and yellow. Pink and red are often mistaken as Ruby. Spinel has a Mohs hardness of 7.5-8, whereas Corundum Ruby has a hardness of 9. They each have different compositions, crystal forms and crystal systems.
