Sodalite

​​Sodalite is an opaque mineral named for it's high sodium content. It's formed from sodium-rich magma. Sodalite gets it's blue coloring the mineral group called feldspathoids (low silica content) with colors ranging from light blue to deep royal-blue, gray to purplish with white streaks. It may also be found with gray, green, orange, red, white, yellow, or colorless areas within the gemstone. Sodalite is found all over the world.  Unless indicated individually, what we offer is from Brazil. 

 

Sodalite is often confused with Lapis Lazuli, however, Sodalite lacks any trace of Pyrite. With a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6, Sodalite is easily carved. Sodalite is natural; it's never heated or enhanced.
