Stalactites are calcite formations that take millions of year to form, dripping down from the roof of a cave. Although Amethyst is very common throughout the world, Amethyst Stalactites are rare. Amethyst Stalactites form when mineral rich water is also dripped from the roof of the cave down the calcite formation. This only occurs in a few locations. As the water drips, over many years, the Amethyst crystals grow. The water, which carries the minerals, affects the coloring of the Amethyst.
