Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral that ranges in color from light pink to bright red. It's only found in a few locations worldwide, usually in fractures and cavities of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. where other manganese minerals are usually present and also is often associated with silver deposits. Sometimes Rhodochrosite alters into black manganese oxides, such as Pyrolusite, Manganite, and Psilomelane.
The name Rhodochrosite is derived from two Greek words meaning "rose colored."
