Chert, also known as Hornstone and Mozarkite, is a slightly translucent to almost opaque sedimentary rock that is a dense cryptocrystalline variety of Quartz. Colors of Chert can be from inclusions of sediment, organic matter or iron. It is a hard stone that early humans made tools out of 1.5 to 2 million years ago.
