Vesuvianite, also known as Idocrase or Vasonite, was originally found on Mount Vesuvius in Campania, Italy, the volcano which erupted during the Roman Empire in 79 AD, destroying the city of Pompeii. It is a green, brown, black, yellow, or blue silicate mineral. Vesuvianite is often mistaken for Jade.
